Welcome to Year 5!
Year 5 is an exciting and busy year, as we work very hard to ensure we have the skills we need to prepare us for our final year at Chorleywood Primary School.
In our class, we work collaboratively to learn about a range of engaging and exciting topics. We develop our learning through interactive and explorative learning opportunities. Our humanities topics include Vikings, King Henry VIII, a study of the Alpine Region, and Journeys: where do our clothes come from? In science we learn about space, forces and the properties of materials. We will be learning how to play the ukulele in music.
A Typical Day
We begin the day with maths fluency practice or a literacy morning activity, which may be related to our grammar focus that week or an opportunity for independent creative writing. This then leads into Literacy, where we look at a selection of text genres and follow the "Talk for Writing" approach. We then begin our numeracy lessons, which help us to build confidence and skills in arithmetic, reasoning and problem solving. On Wednesday mornings, we are able to work in smaller groups to develop our reading, writing and numeracy skills in focused 'booster' sessions. In the afternoons, we take part in a broad range of lessons including computing, science, PE, music, geography, history, RE, PSHE and Spanish. We enjoy a wide variety of sporting opportunities in Year 5, including cross-country running on Chorleywood Common and sailing at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
