COATS

We ask the children to have a coat at school throughout the winter, as they still go outside when the weather is cold or damp.

HAIR, JEWELLERY & NAIL VARNISH

Hair should be tied back in a ponytail/bunches, and held back tidily with a plain hair band / alice band. No head scarves, flowers and other decorative hair accessories may be worn. With regards to headgear, there are exceptions on the grounds of disability, race, religion and/or belief. ONLY small gold or silver stud earrings are acceptable.  No other jewellery or nail varnish allowed.

EARRINGS

In line with the guidance from ‘Safe Practice in PE’, pupils should not participate in any form of physical activity whilst wearing earrings or jewellery. We accept that piercings take time to heal and this can be up to 6 weeks. We would therefore always advise that if a pupil is considering piercing their ears, this is undertaken at the beginning of the summer holidays so as to maximise healing time. Any piercing that cannot be taken out at school will ultimately mean your child cannot participate fully in the physical aspect of PE lessons.

Earrings at Chorleywood Primary School:

· If a student arrives to a PE lesson wearing earrings, they should take them out and place them safely with their belongings.

· Students should not tape up earrings (this can lead to infection).

· If a student is unable to remove earrings, parents must inform the teacher when the piercing took place and provide an estimate as to when they can remove the piercing and take part fully in PE.

· Students with earrings will be allowed to take part in any skill development elements of their PE lessons but will then take a non-participant role in any competition element of the lesson.

· Once students can remove their studs, we recommend that on the days they have PE they do not wear them for the full day.

· For consistency, this policy applies to all practical PE lessons, fixtures and extracurricular activities.

· Teachers cannot take responsibility for earrings or other valuables at any point.
