SEND

Supporting Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at Chorleywood Primary School

At Chorleywood Primary School, we are committed to supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a way that is tailored to their individual needs. Our vision is to ensure that every child, regardless of the support they require, can make progress and achieve their full potential.

We believe that every child is unique, special, and deserves to be valued equally. Our school is a community where every student is given the opportunity to enjoy learning and reach their full potential within an emotionally supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment. We are committed to providing a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum that is adapted to meet each child’s learning and emotional needs.

Our expectation is that all pupils will be encouraged and supported to challenge themselves, develop independent learning strategies, and become as efficient in their learning as possible.

The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and Inclusion Leader (INCO) is Mrs Pearson. She is responsible for the day-to-day management of our SEND policy and ensuring that specific provisions are made to support pupils with SEND.

If you would like to speak to a member of staff regarding any special educational needs or disabilities, our Inclusion Leader, Mrs Pearson, can be reached on 01923 282095 or via email at senco@chorleywood.herts.sch.uk

The Hertfordshire Local Offer

The Local Offer lets parents and young people know what special educational needs and disabilities services are available in Hertfordshire, and who can access them.

DSPL What is Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL)?

DSPL is a Hertfordshire-wide partnership approach where parents, staff in early years settings and schools, further education colleges, local authority officers and representatives from other agencies, work together as part of an Area Group, reviewing and developing the range of provision and support services available to their local community that:

  • Meets the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), aged 0-25, as close to home as possible.
  • Improves outcomes for wellbeing and attainment
  • Widens choice for children and parents/carers
  • Removes barriers to learning
  • Uses resources more effectively
