Welcome to Year 2!

The class teacher is Mrs Allen and our teaching assistants are Miss Piatek and Miss Kelly.
Mrs Bulley also teaches the class on Monday afternoons.

Year 2 is an exciting and important year as we prepare to move into Key Stage 2. As a result, we begin to take on wider responsibilities and become more independent in our learning. We learn about a wide range of topics, from the Egyptians to investigating materials in Science. We continue to enjoy practical and hands-on activities and take opportunities to learn outside, making full use of our wonderful school grounds!

A Typical Day

We begin the day with an open-ended writing or numeracy activity, aimed at developing our confidence and fluency in these areas.

• English: In our literacy lessons, we follow The Literacy Curriculum to engage in a variety of writing activities. We explore a wide range of texts while developing grammar, spelling, and creative writing.

• Phonics/ Reading: We will continue to follow the Read Write Inc program to secure our phonics skills before moving onto guided reading later in the school year, where we use a range of texts to develop comprehension skills.

• Maths: We then move on to maths, where we tackle challenges designed to strengthen our arithmetic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

The afternoons are an opportunity to broaden our learning through science, computing, art, design & technology, RE, PSHE, history, geography and PE.
