Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year at Chorleywood Primary School. The curriculum provides children with an array of new knowledge and skills, but it is also a year in which children are encouraged to become more confident, more reflective and more independent as they begin their progression through Key Stage 2.

The curriculum covers some of the most fundamental skills of modern life, from making sandwiches in Design Technology, to sending emails in ICT, from speaking a foreign language as they begin to leBoudicca and Husbandarn Spanish, to growing plants in Science.
Roman Emperor and General
History lessons bring to life the world of the Ancient Greeks, Ancient Romans and prehistoric Celts, culminating in the annual visit to the Celtic Harmony Camp in Hertfordshire, when the children are able to experience the life of a celt for a day.

Every child in Year 3 is given the opportunity to learn the recorder, providing many of them with their first opportunity to play a musical instrument alone and in a large group.

Through literacy, children are exposed to a diverse range of stories, plays, poems and non-fiction texts that will challenge their thinking and broaden their minds.  Our trip to see the BFG at the theatre last year proved a great hit with the children and allowed them to see how the written word can be transformed into a live production.

In Year 3, we strive to equip our children with an enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning that they will never lose, and the skills to meet the demands of the subsequent stages of their education with happiness and success.
